The Reverend Protopresbyter Athanasios Tsiaousis

Biography

Fr. Athanasios Tsiaousis was born on 1 January 1950 in the village of Ahladea of the Municipality of Kalambaka. After his secondary studies he studied Theology at the University of Athens.

He continued postgraduate studies, with a scholarship, at the Pontifical Oriental Institute (Orientale) in Rome in the years 1976–1979, in subjects of Liturgics of the Orthodox Eastern Church and Early Christian archaeology.

He was appointed as a teacher of secondary education, where he served for three decades in various middle and high schools in the provinces of the prefectures of Larisa, Trikala, and Chalkidiki. At the same time, for two years, as a postgraduate student at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, he attended courses in Liturgics taught by Professor Ioannis Fountoulis.

In January 1986, with the testimony of Elder Aimilianos, he was ordained priest by Metropolitan Synesios Visvinis of Kassandreia and was appointed as parish priest in the settlement of Vatopedi (a refugee settlement of the Municipality of Ormylia, Chalkidiki) beside the Stavropegic Monastery of the Annunciation of the Theotokos, a metochion of the Holy Monastery of Simonopetra on Mount Athos.

Since 2006 he has served in the Metropolis of Mesogaia and Lavreotiki, while also assisting at the Simonopetra metochion of the Ascension of the Lord in Vyronas, Attica.

He is married to Maria Skourtaniotou, also a theologian, and they have four children.
